Velma (McCormac) Layden

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Velma Teresa (McCormac) Layden.

Born in Colina, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Alice (Murphy) McCormac.

Velma recently celebrated her 96th birthday surrounded by family. She cherished her time spent with Harold and their large family and enjoyed every opportunity to celebrate special occasions in Goshen.

Velma also looked forward to the births of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each held a special place in her heart, and they loved her just as deeply as she loved them.

Velma will be lovingly remembered by her children: Eileen ( Rick) of Wards Creek, Teresa of Hampton, Rick  of Goshen, Karen  (Barry) of Alberta, and daughter-in-law Marlene  of Petitcodiac; her grandchildren: Shelley ( Marc), Kenda  (David), Jeremiah , Daniel , Tracey, Tanya, Lindsay (Harold), Ashley (Jerome), Angela  (Sheldon), Paula & Brian, Tera (Rylan), Aaron (Jared), Kirk (Chelsea), Jade (Andy), Kaitlyn (Lucas), Alisha (Scott), and Shenae  (Charles); her great-grandchildren: Justin, Josh (Dara),  Jessie, Ty, Madison, Mitchell, Justine, Jillian, Dylan, Ethan, Avrey, Ryder, Luke, Noah, Patrick, Folsom, Warren, Nate, Rae, Finn, Connor, Trisha (Chris), Madison (Matt), Hunter, and Shayla, Kaylee, Adalind, Cambria, Ellie, Leah, Colsen,Joelle, Gabrielle, Annabelle, Everett, Violet, Oaklyn, Monique, Tal, Jaxx, Denver, Knoxx, Axel, Jerri, Elowen, Jasmine, Izaac ; several great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Velma was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harold Layden, in 2011; her sons, Gerald and David; her daughters, Linda and Lorraine; her sisters, Marie Doherty, Alice Kyle, Lorena Lynch, Doreen Mellon, Ruth McCormac, Rose McCormac, and Mary Thorne; and her brother, Don McCormac.

Arrangements are in the compassionate care of the Salisbury Funeral Home (506 372 4800). The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Jude’s Roman Catholic Church, Salisbury on Thursday June 11 at 11 am. Interment will take place immediately following the Mass in the Most Precious Blood Cemetery, Goshen.

Donations in memory of Velma may be made to the NB Lung Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.

The family is deeply grateful to the staff of the Kiwanis Nursing Home and the staff of the Picadilly Care Home for the care, compassion, and attention shown to Mom during her time with them.
