Brian Cyr

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the peaceful passing of Brian James Cyr Sr., of River Glade, New Brunswick, on Tuesday, March 17th, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Born on April 15th, 1950, he left us just one month before his 76th birthday. 

Brian was the youngest of 14 children born to the late Felix and Judith (Boucher) Cyr of East Saint John. He loved recalling the fun yet challenging times he shared with his older siblings. Whenever family gathered, you would always hear some interesting and hilarious stories. They were a close-knit family who loved reminiscing and enjoyed sharing their musical talents even more. Summer visits from his Ontario siblings often involved some type of musical gathering.

A salesman by trade, Brian could "sell ice to an Eskimo" and made his living in the car industry. He built many great friendships over the years as he worked in several dealerships within Moncton and the Whitby/Oshawa area of Ontario.

While music and cars were among his favourite pastimes, Brian’s heart was first and foremost centered on his family. He is survived and sadly missed by his wife and partner of 39 years, Janice LeBlanc, and their daughter, Danielle LeBlanc-Cyr (Pascal) of Dieppe; his daughters Tammy Cyr-Gourley (Robert) of River Glade, Denise Coughlin (Paul) of Plumsweep; his only son, Brian Cyr Jr. (Rebecca) of River Glade, and their mother, Mary Corah (Owen). He leaves behind his six grandchildren: Amanda Gourley (Kevin) and their son, Jaxon of River Glade; Nicholas Gourley (Cassie) and their daughter, Paityn of Dieppe; Rebecca Garnett (Brody) and their children Kinsley, Weston and Calden of Havelock; Desiree Beamin, Plumsweep; Timothy Beamin, Guelph, ON; Connor Cyr, Colpitts Settlement.

Of the 14 Cyr siblings, Brian is survived by his two sisters, Mame Grey (late Frederick) of Saint John and Irene Tennant (Lloyd) of Lake Charlotte, ON; and his two brothers, Max (Audrey) of Hanover, ON and Benny (Judy) of Blue Mountain, ON. He was predeceased by his sisters: Annie McKnight (late Shepherd), Anita Jack (late Robert), and Justine (in infancy); and his brothers: Wilfred (late Laura), Louis (late Louise), Paul, Alyre (late Millie), Ivan (late Ethel), and John (in infancy). He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, with a special mention of his dear friend and nephew, Allan McKnight, whom Brian regarded as a brother.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors of 4200 at The Moncton Hospital, including Dr. Fatimah Al-ani, Dr. Manuel, and Dr. Azim. During his many stays over the past three years, Brian formed bonds with far too many nurses to mention, for fear of overlooking anyone. You are never recognized enough for your caring, compassion, and attention to detail. We will hold each of you in our hearts forever. God Bless you all!

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Salisbury Funeral Home, 506-372-4800. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, March 28th, 2026, from 2:30 pm to 6 pm at the Petitcodiac Royal Canadian Legion. Those who play musical instruments are encouraged to bring them along for one final Jam Session in Brian’s honor. Interment will take place in the River Glade Anglican Cemetery at a later date.
