Wendell Johnson Smith, 93 of Sussex and formerly of Salisbury and Ottawa, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2025 at the Kiwanis Nursing Home, Sussex.
Born in Maccan, NS he was a son of the late Lorne and Mildred (Canning) Smith. After twenty-five years with the Canadian Armed Forces, Finance Branch he retired. He then worked twenty years at Asea Brown Boveri Engineering Co. in Ottawa, ON. He and Shirley then moved to Salisbury, NB. They attended the First Church of the Nazarene, Moncton. Music was always an important part of Johnson’s life. While in Ottawa, he was a member of the National Arts Center Choir. He was a director of the Moncton Barbershop Chorus and the Moncton Men’s Gospel Chorus.
Johnson is survived and sadly missed by his wife Shirley; sons, Joel of Saskatchewan and Jeffery (Donna) of Ottawa, ON; seven grandchildren: Chenoa, Jori, Tasha, Sean, Chelsie(Kyle), Bryan(Amy), and Cameron(Katrina); one great grandchild, Kira; sisters, Evelyn (Ken MacKay), Eramosa, ON and Karen (David Dickinson), West Brook, NS and brother Leslie (Joyce), Granville Ferry, NS. Besides his parents Johnson was predeceased by his twin sister Elizabeth (Cecil Adams); brothers Earle (Barbara), Lorne, Richard (Beverlie), Eric (Lucille) and Fred.
