Darlene Corey

1948-2025

Darlene Corey

On Friday, July 18 2025, we said goodbye to our mother, Darlene Corey.  She went to be back by our father’s side, the place that always felt like home to her.

In 1948, Darlene became the youngest child of Burpee and Thelma Steeves and was the apple of her father’s eye.  She was the first one to admit she was spoiled rotten and had a great childhood.  She spent time in the lumber camps with her mother; she had a horse and dogs, a moped or whatever else she could dream up that her father could make happen.  Darlene attended school in Havelock and was the last class to ever graduate from Havelock High School.  While in school she met another man who would spend the rest of his life spoiling her and showing her just how much he loved her, our dad, Garry.  Darlene attended Oulton’s College and spent a bit of time working after that but soon she married that boy who loved her since elementary school.  It wasn’t long before she "retired" to become a wife and mother and later, meme.  Mom had hobbies over the years like knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting and gardening but most of all she just wanted to spend time with dad.  They would go for drives, watch TV, play Nintendo, go camping, go to dances, play cards…it didn’t really matter as long as they were together.  Our mother was funny and quirky, feisty and high strung but most all she was loved.

Darlene left a hole in many lives today and will be forever missed by her eldest daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Denis Côté, her second daughter and son-in-law Chrissy and Kevin Chambers, her three wonderful grandsons Aidan, Ryan and Nathan and her beautiful granddaughter Jenna.  Darlene’s brother Clinton Steeves (late Pauline), her sisters-in-law Carol Van Kestern and Pat Steeves as well as her many nieces and nephews are also left to remember her.

Darlene is predeceased by her soulmate Garry, her parents Burpee and Thelma, her sister Pauline (late Aubrey), her brothers Claude and Conrad, her mother and father-in-law Erma and Russell, her sisters-in-law Trina and Theresa and her brothers-in-law Ronnie and Lonnie.

There will be a celebration of Darlene’s life at 11am on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Salisbury Funeral Home (506-372-4800) officiated by family friend, Pastor Doug Tatton.  A private family interment will follow.

If desired, a donation in Darlene’s memory to the Canadian Lung Association, PAW-SBA or a charity of the donor’s choosing would be appreciated by the family.
