Robert (Bob) Adsett

The family is deeply sad to announce the passing of Robert ("Bob") Buckland Adsett of Anagance Ridge on March 27, 2025, in the Moncton Hospital at the age of 86.

Bob was the loving husband for nearly 65 years of Margaret ("Marg") Adsett, father of Robert (Jie)[Kitchener], Hugh (Beth)[The Netherlands] and Susan (Jason)[Toronto], and the very proud grandfather of Connor (Liz)[Montreal] and Sarah [Sackville].  He was the son of the late Hugh and Ethel Adsett, and brother of the late Bill (Trudy)[Ontario].

Bob grew up on the family farm near Guelph Ontario, where he and Marg met in high school. In the early 1960s, they decided to buy a farm in Anagance Ridge, New Brunswick. That much beloved piece of heaven became the lifelong home where they raised their children, a few beef cattle, sheep, pigs and chickens, and the occasional dog and cat, until a few years ago when they moved into Moncton.

Although his childhood was spent in Ontario, it would be hard to find a prouder Maritimer than Bob. He and Marg embraced life "on the Ridge" to the fullest, and the Ridge embraced them and their children back.  Bob began working with Agriculture Canada in 1968, a job that gave him the opportunity to travel to farms throughout the east and north of New Brunswick, and to deepen his love and knowledge of the province and its people. In his 40s, he seized the opportunity to learn French, so that he could better communicate with farmers across the province, a decision that opened up a world of new friendships.  

Bob was deeply devoted to his family and to his community, driving his children to numerous 4-H and other events, sitting on the school board, acting in Petitcodiac Village Theatre, serving as an elder in the United Church and singing in the church choir, and volunteering with refugee resettlement organizations in Moncton. Committed to a life of learning, after he retired he enrolled in the Université de Moncton to study and obtain a Bachelor of Arts in French, an achievement of which he was too humble to brag, but one that made his family immensely proud.  

Bob was very curious and well informed (two newspapers a day and the CBC news), loved to read (when his children left home, he converted a bedroom into a reading room), and read widely. He loved helping his neighbours by plowing driveways or taking them to appointments, was generous with his time, enjoyed people dropping by for coffee, and appreciated a comfy chair and a good hug.

Arrangements are in the care of Salisbury Funeral Home (506-372-4800) with visitation on Wednesday, April 2 from 6-8 pm. A celebration of his life will take place at the Salisbury Funeral Home on Thursday, April 3 at 11 am, officiated by Reverend Lloyd Bruce. Interment will take place at a later date.

The family would like to extend warm thanks to friends and neighbours who helped through Bob's illness, with special thanks to Lou Ruet who provided invaluable support, as well as Dr O'Brien, Dr Winkler and nurse practitioner Jean Billy Lanteigne, who provided care and treatment for Bob, and for staff at the Moncton General Hospital, including Eric, Marylou and Kim in the palliative care unit.
