Garry Corey
1946-2025
On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, our father, Garry Corey, passed away holding the hand of the love of his life Darlene, surrounded by his family and supported by love.
Garry was born in 1946 to Russell and Erma Corey in Springhill, NB. As a child he lived and attended school in Canaan, NB, or God’s Country as he liked to call it. But it wasn’t long before he headed to Havelock to continue his schooling and meet the girl he would marry. Garry and Darlene would share a lifetime of happiness that started when they were barely teenagers. At only 15 years old he headed to community college in Saint John (the same one his daughters and grandson would later attend) to study auto body repair and so began a career that spanned nearly six decades. His first job was in Sussex, he next moved onto a garage in Moncton. From there, he opened his own shop in Havelock, Corey’s Auto Body Repair, this would be the same business he would retire from in 2021. But Garry was not only dedicated to his trade he was also a loyal husband of nearly fifty-six years, a loving father, a fun loving grampy, a great friend and a man who loved his community. Over the years he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Masons and for over forty years he was proud to serve on the Havelock Volunteer Fire Department. Garry was never an idle man; he needed to be busy. On any given day if he wasn’t working up at the garage you could find him working in the yard, getting wood ready for the winter, fishing, four wheeling, at poker nights with Graham and the boys taking his money, catching up on the gossip at the morning meeting with the boys at Charlie’s or just tinkering away at some project. But one of his favourite pastimes was just going for a drive with his best friend, Darlene. He was an animal lover who would try and tame every wild animal he could get close to, especially the squirrels. Anyone who met Garry would tell you he loved to tease and had a great sense of humour and even in the toughest of times, this never wavered.
Garry leaves behind and is deeply missed by loving wife Darlene (Steeves), his eldest daughter and son in law Lisa and Denis Côté, his second daughter and son in law Chrissy and Kevin Chambers, his three very special grandsons Aidan, Ryan and Nathan and his favourite granddaughter Jenna. Garry’s sister Carol Van Kestern, brothers-in-law Clinton Steeves (late Pauline) and Pete Ryder, sister in law Pat Steeves and several nieces and nephews are also left to mourn his passing.
Garry is predeceased by his mother and father Erma and Russell, his brothers Ronnie and Lonnie and his sisters Trina and Theresa, his mother and father-in-law Thelma and Burpee, his brothers-in-law Claude and Conrad and his sister-in-law Pauline Mann (Aubrey).
There will be a celebration of Garry’s life Sunday, March 30 at 2 p.m from the Salisbury Funeral Home Chapel officiated by his friend, Pastor Doug Tatton. Interment at the Greenhill Cemetery.
If desired, a donation in Garry’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, The Friends of the Moncton Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choosing would be appreciated by the family.
