John Bannister

1950-2025

John Bannister

John Alexander Bannister passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9th, 2025.

John was born in Salisbury on October 20, 1950, to Marion and Ernest Bannister. He will be missed by his twin, brother Joe (Eve) of Saint John, his sisters Ellen Steeves (Karl) and Cheryl Ritchie (Mike Garnet) of Moncton, sister-in-law Denise, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Brent.

Although challenged by a brain injury at birth, John knew all the words to "Jesus Loves Me" and would request this favourite hymn at chapel. John knew the unconditional love of Jesus which was evident in his willingness to always help his family, friends, and community. John loved living with his sister, Ellen, in Salisbury and making his rounds in the village. His daily strolls down Main Street would always lead to Home Hardware or Wright’s Bakery to greet customers, stock shelves, package goodies, and wash dishes. John was a stock car enthusiast so volunteering at the Petty International Raceway was a highlight in his life. In more recent years, John took great pride in his daily folding of towels at the nursing home.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of John’s life on Saturday, January 18th, 2pm at the Salisbury Funeral Home Chapel 506-372-4800 with Pastor Scott Ryder officiating. A reception will follow the service.

Donations in John’s memory can be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or charity of choice.
