Amy Watson
1982-2024
Amy Watson passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024 at the age of 42.
She is survived by her partner Chris Mersereau and step-children Gabriel and Annabelle, parents David and Donna Watson, siblings Allison Watson (Isaiah) and David Watson (Cindy).
Amy loved with her entire heart. A neonatal intensive care nurse for many years, she loved and was proud of her career.
Amy was born with cystic fibrosis and while it impacted her daily life, she never let it define her. At 37, she was fortunate enough to receive a life transforming drug which enabled her to survive her first cancer treatments. This gave her, what she called her "bonus life". She then was healthy enough to start a new career at the Riverview Public Library. An avid reader since birth, being surrounded by and pushing books on other people was the dream job. She also managed the library at the Petitcodiac Baptist Church for decades.
Amy took care of her friendships and in doing so, built a community for herself. She loved nothing more than a coffee or lunch date and catching up on the latest happenings in everyones lives. She was the sounding board for many of us and never left a text message on read.
Amy loved an adventure whether it was a road trip to Maine, a flight to New Zealand, or a kayak down the Petty River. She always said yes to new experiences, whether ordering blindly off a menu she didn’t understand in Portugal or learning to fish and hunt. Fishing at Middle Island, walking her dogs at the Petitcodiac Maple Street Park, and horseback riding in Glenvale were some of her favourite things to do.
When Amy’s health declined and she was no longer able to work, she took up photography and as with everything, she went all in. She loved nature photography, taking pictures of waterfalls, sunbursts, and mushrooms. She coerced her friends and family to spend many cold nights under the stars so she could get the perfect picture of the Milky Way before the Fundy fog rolled in.
Amy loved being a hockey mom to Gabi and Annabelle. She considered it a privilege to be their bonus mom and watch them grow into wonderful people. She was proud of them and loved planning family adventures to some of her favourite places. Amy cherished every moment spent with her family.
She showed us how to live without fear and love passionately. She will be missed by all who knew her, so grab a library book, a cup of strong coffee and put on Taylor Swift.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Route 106 on Saturday, December 28 from 12 noon until 2 pm with the funeral to follow at 2:45 pm with Rev. David Woodworth officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
