Ruth Wilband

It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Ruth Olivia Wilband on October 13, 2024, at the Moncton Hospital with her family by her side, in her 81st year, beloved wife of Paul Wilband for 60 years.

Born in Knightville, NB on December 26, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Grace (Carll) Elliott.

Ruth married Paul on November 9, 1963, in Anagance Ridge, NB. They resided in Saint John until 1975 when they moved to their current home in Wheaton Settlement, NB.

Ruth was a member of The United Church of Canada and a lifetime member of the UCW. For a time, she was director of SPOT, a food bank and clothing store. She was also a former member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was an avid knitter and enjoyed knitting hats and mittens for family members as well as donating many items to local institutions.

Ruth is survived by her husband Paul; sons Kevin (Lori), Derrick (Amanda), and Jason (Michelle); brother Robert (Sharon); sisters, Marie Keith and Jean Norden; sisters-in-law Marjorie, Shirley, Vi, Bonnie, and Tanya (Rick Brown). Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Ryan Wilband, Oshawa, ON, Jesse (Marianne) Wilband, Chicoutimi, QC, Jenna Dunfield-Wilband, Riverview, NB and Sara Wilband, North Bay, ON; great-grandchild Owen Wilband, Chicoutimi, QC, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents Ruth was predeceased by her brothers Garth, Ross, and Clifford; brothers-in-law, Edward Norden and Theodore Keith and sister-in-law Donna (late Lawrence Hawkes).

For the exceptional care provided to her, the family extends a special thank-you to the fourth-floor staff of the Moncton Hospital, and the caregivers of Dow Quality Health Care, especially Lorrin Martin, McKenzie Brunet, and Selena Nyman. Also a special thank you to the extramural and physiotherapist staff that tended to her needs both at home and at the hospital.

Resting at Salisbury Funeral Home & Crematorium, 3350 Route 106, Salisbury, NB, visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 16th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 17th at 11:00am from the Salisbury Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in the Pine Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Liver Foundation.
