Doris MacCallum
1949-2024
Doris Nettie MacCallum, 75, of Hillsborough passed away Friday August 2, 2024 at the Moncton Hospital.
Born in Moncton she was a daughter of the late Walter and Marjorie (Downey) McLean and wife of the late Elmer "Frank" MacCallum.
To Doris, family was everything. She was compassionate, patient, generous, full of love and understanding. She was a woman with a big heart. As her children grew into adults, Doris was always an ever present part of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives. With several invites to Christmas and Easter dinner, never one to disappoint, Doris would make the rounds between her various kids homes.
Living most of her life in Salisbury, Doris spent 21 years working as a Registered Nursing Assistant at the Spencer Nursing Home. She loved oldie country music and was an avid reader of two books a week. Upon retirement, Doris was able to explore her love of singing. Eventually, moving from Salisbury to Hillsborough, Doris spent the last several years developing a new group of friends at the Caledonia Apartment Complex Place. She would make it down to the common room every night where the exploits of the day would be discussed. She also enjoyed her Saturday night Karaoke singing, at the local legion. She will be sadly missed by the "Hillsborough Ladies", especially her dear friend Laura.
Doris loved travelling to Ontario for long extended trips to visit her daughter Denise and son-in-law Robert, in Cobourg, where she would reconnect with her sister Carolyn and brother Syd. Daughter and mother would spend every Saturday making the thrift shop rounds returning home comparing daughter mother deal notes. Always enthusiastic, Doris loved her outings to live theatre and music events. She developed a new circle of friends in Ontario and will be greatly missed by her "Cobourg Second Family", who graciously welcomed her into their lives & homes.
A family & friends celebration of life and disbursement of ashes will be made per Doris’s wishes.
Doris lived a remarkable life, not measured by treasures, but the lives she touched; the family she created and love and memories she left behind - in that there are no goodbyes.
"Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened." - Dr. Seuss
Survived and sadly missed by her children Barb Kelly (Rick), Lisa MacCallum, Denise Redmond (Robert), Victor MacCallum (Lori), Tony MacCallum (Joy), Sandy MacCallum and Dean MacCallum (Catherine) and grandchildren Karen, Spencer, Justine, Tamara, Kevin, Colby, Darren, Alex, Codey, Isaac and Katie and by several great grandchildren. Survived also by her siblings Bev Taylor, Brian McLean (Debbie), Carolyn Romans and Bruce McLean and by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Husband "Frank" Elmer MacCallum, brothers Keith, Wayne and Sydney.
Arrangements are in care of the Salisbury Funeral Home and Crematorium and will be private for family.
