William (Bill) Thurber
1933-2024
William (Bill) Ernest Thurber, 91, of Silver Fox Estates, and formerly of Moncton, passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Sunday, May 12, 2024 and has joined his Lord and Saviour in his heavenly home.
Born in Moncton, he was a son of the late Winford and Jean Thurber. Bill retired as Head Custodian from School District 15. He was also a Stationary Engineer and was president of various unions at the city, provincial and national levels. He attended Salisbury Baptist Church. Bill was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, woodworking, and singing to Residents at Seniors Homes, his group became known as "Bill & the Boys". He loved spending time with his family, precious grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by his sons Randy (Carolyn) and Bill Jr. (Heather); grandchildren Josh Matchett, Robert and Andrew Thurber, Jennifer Burry (Chris) and Sara Keirstead (Chris); great grandchildren Clara and Chloe Keirstead and Beau Burry; daughter-in-law Rose Matchett and sister June LeBlanc. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Matchett); stepson Blaine; grandsons Adam Thurber and Jason Matchett; brothers Junior, Cecil and John and sisters Margaret, Eleanor, Ruth, Francis and Beverly.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Route 106 (506-372-4800) with visiting Wednesday, May 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held in the funeral home chapel Thursday, May 16 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Gordon Sutherland and Pastor Doug Howatt officiating. Interment at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Management & the many staff at the Silver Fox Estates and to the Doctors and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Moncton Hospital.
