Zeta Shirley Sherwood

1935-2024

Zeta Shirley Sherwood

On Sunday, January 21, 2024, Zeta peacefully went to heaven to be with her Lord. Zeta was the oldest child of the late Raymond and Grace Dykeman.  She leaves behind her grieving husband Walter (Bud) and their 3 children and their spouses; Peter (Laura), Tom (Serena) and Katherine (Kevin) along with 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.  She loved them all and she proudly spoke about them.  Zeta cherished her sisters and their husbands and all her nephews and nieces. Her family ties were strong, and she took a great interest in their lives and activities.

Zeta grew up in the "stone house" located along the St. John River near Fredericton NB.  She attended school in Maugerville and completed grade 10 at Fredericton High School followed by Business School where she prepared for a career as a secretary.  Upon successfully completing the program she got a Civil Servant job as a clerk in the Department of Public Works.

Over the years she used her skills serving as a volunteer Church Secretary for close to 40 years.  She was a leader, mentor, Sunday School teacher, childcare worker, and elder care giver.  Zeta treated everyone with respect and kindness.

She married Walter (Bud) Sherwood on June 30th, 1956.  They raised their family with love and modelled Christian values at home and beyond.    Together, they grew in their faith in Christ, which became the foundation for their 67 years of marriage.

She is survived by her loving husband Bud, children, and their families:

Peter Sherwood (Laura) – Elouise Sherwood, Gwen (Ryan), Peter (Mora), Audrey, Lillian, Adam, Evelyn, Nathan and Ruth; Natasha Hiltz (Andrew), Ellie, Janaya, Gabrielle and Andie; Melissa Durksen (Scott).

Tom Sherwood (Serena) – Chris Sherwood (Maryanne), Tabaitha and Kody; Mary (Peter), Faith, Abbagail and Luke; Haley.

Katherine MacLeod (Kevin) – Ben MacLeod (Stephanie); Lori MacLeod (George).

Also survived by sisters Ruth Waugh, Marie Wilton, Muriel Kitchen and Deborah Bourque (Eric).

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers-in-laws:  Glen Waugh, Vernon Kitchen, Ross Wilton and nephew Andrew.
