Ruth Alward

It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Ruth Alward (Steeves) , 86, widow of Royce Alward on November 22nd at the Jordan LifeCare Centre surrounded by her family. Born in Saint John she was a daughter  of the late Melvin and Florence (Lounsbury) Steeves.  In her early working years Ruth was a Switchboard operator in Petitcodiac with NB Tel. and was a Foster Parent and provided child care in her home known to many children as Nanny Ruth. In later years she provided in home senior care. Ruth was a longtime volunteer with the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation and a member of the Lighthouse Assembly Church. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and her many feline friends.

Survived and sadly missed by her children Herb (Mathieu), Sharon Gaudet (Brian), Eleanor McVicar (Glen), Leslie Tingley, Jim (Corry),  Sheldon (Angela), Heather Demont (Martin), 13 cherished grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sisters Martha Carson and Brenda Wood, sister in law Jennie Steeves and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Royce, sisters Edna Damon and Donna Carson and brothers Dean and Chester Steeves.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Salisbury & Armstrong Funeral Chapel, 506-372-4800. Visitation will be held on November 24th from 6:00pm – 8:00 pm at Armstrong’s Funeral Chapel. A Funeral service will be held Saturday  at 11:00am from the Armstrong’s Funeral  Chapel with Rev. Calvin Fenwick officiating. Interment will be held following the service at the Havelock Wesleyan Cemetery.
