Kelly Layton
1963-2023

It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Kelly Layton on November 16, 2023. Born in Moncton, he was a son to the late Harold & Gertrude (Kelly) Layton.
Kelly was #12 in a family of 14 kids, plus Mom and Dad, including one baby who passed at a very young age.
Growing up was never boring around the Layton household, with lots and lots of good times, and with three older brothers Kelly had to learn quickly and had to be able to run fast!!
Kelly, like most of us, tried his hand at many things. Being that New Brunswick had so much dairy, he worked at a milk plant, Dairytown for years.
Married young, he and Lisa had two children - Jessica and Joshua. Kelly, like many Maritimers, moved to Alberta where he again worked at a Dairy. Carpentry still called to him and he followed in his Dad's footsteps and became an excellant carpenter. He and his family stayed in the Calgary area for a few years. His brother Larry often says that the years with Kelly, Lisa and the kids in and around Calgary were the best times of his life, enjoying family time - biking, skating, hiking, exploring - you name it they did it. But the Maritimes called and Kelly's family moved back home where he continued his career in carpentry throughout his life. Sadly he and Lisa divorced, but time heals all, and they remained lifelong friends.
In time he met Kathy Bridges and for the next 11 years they lived, loved, travelled and enjoyed life together. One big adventure for them was a few weeks in Newfoundland, which crossed an item off of his bucket list. They enjoyed all that the Maritimes had to offer - cruising the Saint John River in their party boat, or whale watching excursions. Kelly loved learning obscure information and could spout more sperm whale facts than sperm whales could spout water.
During his long battle with cancer Kathy was with Kelly every step of the way. She was Kelly's rock, taking care of him until the end.
Like the four Layton family members to pass before him, the loss of Kelly has created another big hole in the family. We miss them and will always remember them with love.
Kelly is survived and sadly missed by his children, Jessica Symes (Sam) and Joshua Layton (Kayla); his grandchildren: William, Amelia, Laura, Vincent, Lavana, Melody, Violet, Aura and Nayva; his siblings: Gloria Roberts (Brian), Sharon Pollock (Richard), Brian Layton (Pat), Larry Layton (Violet), Debby Bleakney (Jack), Kathy Arthurs (Ted), Linda Gillcash (Lorne), Joanne Solomon (Bryan) and Susan Layton (Joe); his significant other and best friend, Kathy Bridges as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Kelly was predeceased by his siblings: Harold Jr., Robert, Michael and Elaine.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Salisbury Funeral Home, 506-372-4800. A Celebration of Life for Kelly will be held on November 26th from 12:00 – 3:00pm at the Salisbury Funeral Home. Interment will be held in the Wheaton Settlement Cemetery following the Celebration of Life at 4:00pm.
If desired, donations made to the Wheaton Settlement Cemetery or the Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences and donations may be made at www.keirsteads.ca
