Vincent D. "Bing" Geldart of Salisbury passed away at the K.E Spencer Memorial Home on September 11, 2023 at the age of 89.

Born in Middlesex, Albert County on April 28, 1934, he was a son of C. Arden and Annie L. (Ross) Geldart. He is survived by daughter, Lisa MacLean (Terry Dyke); son, Phillip (Angie); daughter in-law, Sandy; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Margo (2005); his son, Gregory; his grandson, Kyle and infant son, Stephen (1958).

While still at school he joined the 8th Hussars (Militia) in Sussex at age 14 and having reached the rank of Sgt at 16 he transferred to the Regular Force at 17, and became for a time, the youngest Sergeant in the Canadian Army. On promotion to WO Class 1 at 33 he was appointed RSM of the 8 CH (PL) at Petawawa, ON. He was later to be appointed RSM of the Armour School in CFB Gagetown and PF the Armour Corps at NDHQ at Ottawa. Over 42 years of service, he served in various capacities and locations in Canada and abroad including NATO Germany, UNEF Egypt, Libya and England. While serving at the Management Study Unit at Halifax and Maritime Engineering NDHQ, he worked extensively with Navy Fleets on both coasts and at sea. He was qualified Military Paratrooper. He retired a captain in 1990.

Bing has been an active hobby Genealogist and amateur historian for most of his adult life. He was a founding member of both the NB Genealogical Society and the Genealogical Institute of the Maritimes and as an executive member including President of both NBGS and of the Southeastern Branch of the Society. He has also served as Director of both the Albert County and Westmorland County Historical Societies.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Salisbury Funeral Home, 506-372-4800 from where a Celebration of Bing’s life will be held on Thursday, September 14th at 1:00pm with Rev. Danny Compton presiding. Interment will take place at the Colpitts Community Cemetery.
