Sylvia Saunders
1926-2023

Sylvia Saunders, was born Sylvia Revell Eardley-Wilmot, July 3rd, 1926 in East Hatley, Qc. to Rev. Charles Eardley-Wilmot and Rose Meredyth Bowen. She passed peacefully at her home, in Intervale (near Petitcodiac) NB, on June 23, 2023 at the age of 96. Sylvia was predeceased by her loving husband, Allan Adolphus Saunders of Intervale, NB (D. 1999) and their young daughter (age 6), Heather Anne Saunders (D. 1956). Family left to mourn her passing are daughters Nancy (Rene Labelle) and Lee (Ruell Sloan), as well as grandchildren Tracy Eades (Mike Crowle), Allison Eades and Meredith Eades, their father George Eades, great grandchildren Delia and Adri Crowle, nieces and nephews in New Brunswick, Ontario, the Yukon, Alberta, Australia, Washington, New Jersey and cousins in Scotland.
Sylvia graduated in 1947 from Macdonald College of McGill University as a Home Economics teacher (NB Teacher’s Association) and practiced her profession at the Queen Elizabeth School in Moncton until retirement in 1989. The family moved to the Intervale farm in 1973, where Sylvia followed her dream of owning and riding a horse. Together, Sylvia and Allan, developed a passion for the Morgan horse and as active members of the Morgan Horse Association they competed in exhibitions across the Maritimes. Sylvia received a Canadian Morgan Association award for "Outstanding Organization of the 125th Anniversary, Ride Across Canada". This culminated in proudly riding her horse Prism in the Ottawa Centennial parade, carrying the "Ride Across Canada" banner. In this community of horse enthusiasts, Sylvia and Allan developed an extended family of friends with a passion for the Morgan breed.
Sylvia, was a prolific writer and her short story, My Sergeant Pilot, describes a young girl’s historical connection to World War II. The online "Legion", audio and text format, is available at https://legionmagazine.com/en/my-sergeant-pilot/.
A service to celebrate Sylvia’s life will be held at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Route 106, (506)372-4800 on September 29, 2023 at 1 pm. Livestreaming will be available. Followed by interment at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens, 3 pm and a home gathering, 5 pm at 800 Route 885, Intervale.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Morgan Horse Association or to the Allan A. Saunders Memorial Graduate Scholarship, Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University.
