James Surrett

1946-2023

James Surrett

It is with great sadness that the family of James Royden Surrett, CD, announces his passing on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the Moncton Hospital at the age of 76. Originally from Petitcodiac, he was the son of the late Guy and Dorothy (Mann) Surrett.

Jim was retired from the Canadian Army after thirty years of service, including tours with the United Nations to Egypt and Namibia. During that time, he also volunteered with cadets and the fire department. In his free time, he enjoyed playing crib, bowling, washer toss, and doing jigsaw puzzles and word games on his computer. His favourite hockey team was Boston Bruins…always partial to Boxton as that was his mother's birth place.

He is survived by his wife Edna (Steeves/Betts); two daughters, Sonya Carty (Moncton) and Joanne Esser (Shediac); three sons, James Surrett (Moncton), Troy Surrett (Toronto) and James R. Surrett Jr. (Alberta); two step-sons Brent Betts (Suzanne) and Brice Betts (Tammy); grandchildren, Cassie Surrett (New Brunswick), Tristan Surrett (Alberta), and Callie Surrett (Alberta), Matthew Betts (Alberta), Christopher Betts (Nova Scotia), Lexi Betts (New Brunswick) and Camden Betts (New Brunswick); great-grandchildren, Claire (Moncton) and Grace (Moncton); sister Florence Davis (Ontario) and two brothers, Verne (Ontario) and Harvey (New Brunswick).  Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brothers Reid Surrett (Ontario) and Richard Surrett (Petitcodiac); sister Judy Davis (Moncton) and granddaughter Lacey McGill (Moncton).

The family will receive relatives and friends at Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Route 106 (506)372-4800 on Thursday, June 1 at 2 pm. Interment at Maplewood Cemetery at a later date.

If desired, donations in Jim's memory to People for Animal Wellbeing (formerly SPCA) would be appreciated by the family.
