Herbert (Herb) Keirstead

  Herbert Keith (Herb) Keirstead, 93, of Petitcodiac passed peacefully following a brief illness at the Moncton Hospital on Monday, January 30, 2023.

  Born in Portland ME, he was a son of the late Elwell and Florence (Thorne) Keirstead.  His family returned to Havelock when he was a youngster and he attended grade school first in the Upper Ridge and later Havelock. He went to work on the construction of the Cement Plant in Havelock and joked that he stayed to help close it down some 43 years later. He was a member of the Petitcodiac Baptist Church, former member of the Kiwanis Club and SNB Woodlot Association. He enjoyed time spent at Caissie Cape and North Conway and had a lifelong passion for horses. He was a former Inspector with Sport Horse Canada and in the sixties leased a stallion from E.P. Taylor farms in Toronto to  put some quality foals on the ground throughout the Maritimes to improve the Hunter Jumper Sport. He was involved with planning the first offical horse show in Sussex and the committee that launched the Westmorland County Fair. He was on the steering committee to build the Petitcodiac Arena and was a past president of Petitcodiac Minor Hockey. In the early seventies together with his wife  and family they operated the Log Cabin Takeout in Petitcodiac.  

  Survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Shirley (Weedon); his children Bruce (Debbie), David (Claire), John (Karen) and Anne, cherished grandchildren Jeffrey (Lori), Amy Boudreau (Steve), Lindsey Allen (Ryan), Hayley, Ashley and Drew and great granchildren, Nolan, Ellie and Charlie. Survived also by sister in law Lorna Keirstead, brother in law Jim Weedon (Sindi), Jenn's mother Darlene, his cousin and lifelong friend George Fawcett and by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Norman and granddaughter Jennifer.

  Resting at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Rte 106 Salisbury (372-4800) with visiting

Wednesday Feb 1, from 6-8 pm and Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 pm.  A private family funeral will be held. Interment at Maplewood Cemetery.

  The family wish to express sincere appreciation to the Doctors and Nurses of 3400, Moncton Hospital for the care received.

  If desired in memory of Herb, memorials to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
