Robert Gilbert

1933-2022

Robert Gilbert

It is with much sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Robert Gilbert, of Moncton on Wednesday, March 16th, at the age of 88 years.

"Papa", born in Reading, England, served four brief but memorable years as an aviation electrician with the RAF before immigrating to Canada in 1958. He had a long career with CP Express, and then spent a few years with the Toronto District School Board until finally retiring and moving to Huntsville, Ontario, followed by five years in Moncton.

A highly disciplined yet gentle and playful soul, when he wasn't puttering in his work room or garden, he could be found enjoying time with his grandchildren, or relaxing by the pool on one of his cruises, always with a beer or ice cream in hand and definitely a smile on his face.

He is survived by his step-children, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, their families, his extended family and friends, their pets and of course his soul mate and best friend, his wife, Marian. All of whom loved him and will miss him dearly. He is predeceased by his parents and siblings.

Thanks to the staff at Hillside View Special Care Home and especially the Palliative Care staff at Moncton Hospital. Your special care of Papa has been amazing and words of thanks just don't seem enough.

According to his wishes there will be no funeral and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hillside View Special Care Home Inc., 560 Front Mountain Road, Moncton, New Brunswick, E1G 3H3 or Friends of the Moncton Hospital.

If you would like to honour "Papa", raise a glass of your favourite beer and say "here's to the girl that lives on the hill…"

Arrangements are in the care of Salisbury Funeral Home (372-4800).
