Cathy Moase

Peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Monday, March 7th, 2022 of Mary Catherine (Cathy) Moase of Riverview aged 70 years. Survived by her husband Don Moase (Riverview), son Michael Moase (Maia) (Musquodoboit Harbour, NS) and their children Alexandre, Nicolas and Eugenie; daughter: Katie Moase (Riverview) and her children: Christopher, Mikala and Ryleigh-Ann; and great-grandson Jasper.  Sister of Allan Buote (Kathleen) (Summerside, PE) and  Grant Buote (Fredericton, NB); Sister-in-law of Sheri Buote (Summerside, PE).  Also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins and in-laws on the Moase side.  Predeceased by her brothers Allan Francis (who died in infancy), and Gerard, and by her parents Jim Buote and Ann Buote/ MacLellan and her step-father Elmer MacLellan.

Cathy was born in Alberton, PEI to Jim and Ann (MacLean) Buote and lived the first 4 years of her life on her parents' farm on the Beaton Road in Alaska, PEI before the family moved to O'Leary, and then on to Summerside. Cathy attended school at St. Mary's Convent and Summerside High School and later graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island ( BA ) and then Mount St. Vincent University in Halifax with a degree in teaching.  She and Don were married in 1973 and settled in Halifax where Cathy taught school in Musquodobit Harbour and later Cole Harbour.  It was in Halifax that both Michael and Katie were born.  The family moved back to Summerside in 1984 where Cathy continued teaching - this time Kindergarten.  They moved and settled in Riverview, NB in 1990, where Cathy continued teaching Kindergarten in the public school system until she retired in 2002.

Cathy was known for her generosity and big heart and would do anything for anyone. She had a passion for cross-stitching and surrounded herself with her stitching sisters, going on yearly retreats. After she retired she volunteered at schools, reading to students and helping as a support worker.  She was a proud sponsor of and participant in fund-raising activities for the Moncton Hospital and the oncology department over the years.

A celebration of Cathy’s life will be held on Saturday, March 26, at Salisbury Funeral Home Chapel, Salisbury NB at 3 pm.  Interment later in People’s Cemetery Kensington.  If so desired memorial contributions may be made to The Canadian Cancer society or a charity of your choice.  Arrangements entrusted to the Davison Funeral Home Kensington.  www.davisonfh.com
