Joseph 'Joe' Black

  Joseph "Joe" Ottie Black, 81, passed away at his home in Canaan Forks on Saturday March 5, 2022.

  The son of the late Ottie Ondon Black and the late Mabelle (Damery) Black, he was a generous and unassuming man, always with a kind word and willing to help someone out if he was able.  He constantly surprised his children with his patience, and his sense of humour.  He devoted his life to the family farm where he was born, his herd of beef cattle and his family.  He was an avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman, and loved nothing more than being in the outdoors.  Over the years he worked as a logger, worked in local lumber mills and farms, and spent some years as a bulldozer opeator building woods roads.

  Joseph is predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years Shirley (Beck) Black, his sister Jean died in infancy, brother Stanley Black, half-siblings Esley (Viola) Black, Eva (Fred) Jackson, and Harold (Bessie) Black.

  He is survived and will be profoundly missed by his devoted children Shannon (Jeff) Huber of Melville, SK, Corinne (Bryan) Black of Wards Creek, Jessica (Ernie) McGrath of Canaan Forks, Erin (David) Goddard of Kinnear Settlement, and Neil (Melanie) Black of Rochester, Minnesota; his loving grandchilden Christopher, Keiran, Jordan, and Bradley;  his chosen companion and partner in daily senior shenanigans Jean Paterson of Canaan Forks. He will also be sadly missed by his favourite group of ladies, his sisters Myrtle (George) Ross, Leta (Gurney) Beal, Roberta (Harold) Moss, Linda (Harold) Constantine, Rilla (Ansel) Moss-Wood, Loretta (Jim) Beck, and Alma (Wendell) Maxwell, his sister-in-law Glenna Black, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, "adopted" children and extended family.

  Joe is in the care of Salisbury Funeral Home (372-4800) where a private family service will be held. Interment in New Canaan Cemetery at a later date.

  If desired, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
