Mary Thorne

1932-2022

Mary Thorne

Mary Thorne, 89, of Moncton, formerly of Havelock, peacefully passed away at her residence, the K.E. Spencer Memorial Home, with family by her side, on Monday, February 21, 2022. Born in Sussex, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Alice (Murphy) McCormac.

Like most people our mother was not perfect, but she was PERFECT for us.  She loved each of us unconditionally.  And, oh how she loved her grandchildren.  Her journals were full of stories about them.  Sleepovers at Nanny's, her famous pancakes and who could ever forget her famous Nanny cakes; white layer cake, jam between the layers, topped with mounds of boiled icing!  Unfortunately she did not get to know all of her great grandchildren, but we spoke of them often, so they were in her heart as well.  Mum/Nanny will be missed by all of us.

Survived by daughters, Kathy Reeder (Jim) of Riverview, Lisa Lewis (Brad) of Petitcodiac; son, Donald (Susan) of Havelock; daughter-in-law, Amy Thorne of Riverview; grandchildren, Devin (Alicen) Thorne, Chelsea (Scott) Hatt, Cody (Jessica) Thorne, Travis (Katlyn) Thorne, Lane (Katherine) Lewis, Denver (Kaylee) Lewis, Heidi (late Chad Thorne ); 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Velma Layden of Sussex, Glenna Madden; brother, Donald McCormack both of Hamilton, ON; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her son, Robin; grandson Chad; sisters, Marie Doherty, Alice Kyle, Lorena Lynch, Doreen Mellon, Ruth McCormack, Rose McCormack; the father of her children, Stuart Thorne.

Visitation will take place at The Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Route 106, Salisbury West (372-4800), on Monday, February 28, 2022 from 6 – 8 pm. Memorial Service will be held at the Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 11 am with Rev. Phil Mulligan officiating. Interment will be held at the Havelock Wesleyan Cemetery at a later date. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, masks are mandatory.
