Myrtle Power

1930-2022

Myrtle Power

A celebration of Myrtle's life will be held at the Salisbury Funeral Home (372-4800) Saturday, April 30 at 11 am with Rev. Dr. Peter Sherwood officiating.

Myrtle Vivian Power (Stiles) went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from the Jordan LifeCare Centre.  Our heartfelt thanks to the Jordan "team" who provided her loving care over the past two and a half years.

The daughter of Cecil Stiles and Annie L. Stiles (Bleakney), she was born on October 2, 1930 in Moncton, NB.  Myrtle studied at business school and worked at Willett Foods before she married George on August 31, 1953.  She lovingly looked after her family, cooked, maintained the farm accounts, hosted Sunday dinners for friends, missionaries and other special guests, blended in her lovely alto voice or directed the local Baptist church choir and was involved in many other ministries.  She worked at a Christian bookstore called La Bonne Nouvelle.  In the summer, when the corn was ripe, the aunts, uncles and cousins would come from far and wide for a corn boil.  Myrtle experienced the truth of her favorite chapter in scripture: Romans 8.  Nothing life brought could separate her from the love of Jesus.  She lived in that confidence and loved those around her into a closer confidence for themselves.  An empathetic friend, quick to pray, a keen competitor at the table game of your choice (especially word games), with a twinkle in her eye, her quick wit "turned many a phrase".

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her but especially her children Daniel Power (Elizabeth), Beth Duncan (Darrell), Philip Power (Nancy) and Barry Power.  Also survived by her sister Shirley Spencer, brother Stanley Stiles (Joan), and sister-in-law Patricia Henry as well as many nieces and nephews.  Devoted grandmother to Jonathan Power (Alison), Matthew Power (Emily), Shawn Power (Chrystal), Natalie Mawhinney (Tim), Vaughan Duncan (Melissa), Charles Duncan (Heidi), Sarah Duncan, Benjamin Duncan and great-grandmother to her youngest treasures Rebekah and Andrew Power, Annabel, Juliana and Gordon Power, Colin and Charlotte Duncan, Cormac Power and Ella and Ava Mawhinney.  Predeceased by her parents, husband George H. Power, daughter Kathryn Power, brother Russell Stiles, sister Lorraine Steves (Gerald), brother-in-law Walter Spencer, sister-in-law Ruth Adair (Vaughan) and great granddaughter Madeline Power.

There will be a private family burial. If desired, memorial donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
