Ronald Hicks

Ronald Earle Hicks, 89, of Havelock, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at the Moncton Hospital. Born in Havelock, he was the son of the late Donald and Irene (Atkinson) Hicks.

After graduating from the former Havelock High School in 1948 he graduated as a motor mechanic from Technical school. He worked for Dryden motors as a mechanic, and then Canada Cement Lafarge for over 45 years, beginning as a physical tester in the laboratory, moving on to welding, then retiring as a machinist. He was a faithful member of the Havelock United Baptist Church, serving in the past as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Trustee and Tyro Leader. Ronald was a founding member of the Havelock Flying Club, and over 48 year volunteer with the Havelock Fire Department. A quiet, thoughtful man, he was always willing to fix almost anything in his shop when a neighbor came calling.

Ronald is survived and sadly missed by his beloved wife of 38 years, Ruby (Keith-Thorne); step-children, Wade (Janet) Thorne, Angie (Norman) Mitton, Kerry (Nancy) Thorne, Julie (Vic) Loewen, Shelley (Rob) Northorp, Robin (Anne-Marie) Thorne; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; brother, Brian (Jennifer) Hicks, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Ronald was predeceased by his brother, Alan (Margaret), and a niece, Sheila.

Arrangements are in care of The Salisbury Funeral Home (372-4800). A Celebration of Ronald’s Life will be held at The Havelock United Baptist Church and will be announced when Covid restrictions ease. Interment will be in Greenhill Cemetery.

If desired, memorials to the Havelock United Baptist Church or the Greenhill Cemetery Fund would be appreciated.
