Jessie Steeves

1925-2021

Jessie Steeves

Jessie Louise Steeves passed away peacefully at the Jordan Lifecare Centre and went to her eternal home on Monday, February 22, 2021 just days before her 96th birthday. Born in Steeves Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Hazen and Bertha Crossman.

She was a member of Hillside Baptist Church where she was the church clerk for many years and later a member of Elgin Baptist Church. She was a life member of the Women’s Missionary Society and the Women’s Institute. She loved to quilt, knit, and sew, and many times was called upon for a haircut and home perm. Her daughters especially loved getting a perm the day before school pictures.

She was a hard worker. She could always be found working side by side with her husband Laurence, from haying, sugar making, yarding logs, picking blueberries, cooking in the lumber camps, etc. Wherever he was, he wanted her to be. In later years, she enjoyed bus trips with her many friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Pauline (Gerald) Carlin, and Ruth (Everette) Barchard; her beloved grandchildren, Greg (Heather) Carlin, Paula (Barry) Barchard, Pamela Carlin, Sonya Barchard, Sandra (Cory) Somers, and Bentley Barchard; her precious great-grandchildren, Cody, Maggy, Emma, Jack, Isaac, Will, Jenny, Benjamin, Luke, Aiden, and Jace; sisters, Frances Todd, and Catherine Steeves; good friend, Jackie; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Laurence (1994); sister, Evelyn Eagles; brothers, Lawrence, Percy, and Horace.

When mum was 85, she decided she didn’t want to live alone so she drove her Blazer to Petitcodiac to live at Grant and Sherry Seeley’s special care home. She enjoyed her time there. The family wishes to thank all the nurses and workers at the Jordan Lifecare Center for the love and wonderful care given to Jessie. We will always remember your kindness.
