Evaline Blakney

1937-2021

Evaline Blakney

Evaline Alice (Sketchley) Blakney passed peacefully on Feb 14th, 2021 at Forest Dale Home in Riverside Albert. Born July 18, 1937 in Quill Lake SK, she was the daughter of Joseph and Hilda (Roberts) Sketchley.  In 1939 at the age of two, she moved with her family to NB, where they settled first in Harewood.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles F. Blakney, whom she married on Aug 31st 1955, and lived and raised their family together on the family farm in Hillgrove NB. Evaline was the faithful farmer’s wife for many years. After her children were grown she became a pastry chef at the Bluebird Restaurant in Sussex, NB, where she was well known for her homemade rolls, pies, and cookies.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlene A (Blakney) Robichaud (Rick) of Riverview NB; sons, C. Ivan (Sherry) of Winnipeg MB, David A. of Rochester NH, Bruce A. (Sally) of Washburn ME, and Roger P. of River Glade NB; sister, Shirley Douthwright of Port Hardy, BC; brothers, Charlie (Ellen) of Nanaimo, BC, and Raymond (Heather) of Powell River, BC. Predeceased by sister, Katherine Edith; brothers, Thomas, William, Albert, Ivan, and Gerald.

Survived also by 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren that adored her as she was the crafting, cookie baking, story reading kind of grandmother that every child would wish for.

She was most commonly referred to as Sweet by those who knew her, and those who provided her wonderful care at Forest Dale Home. As a strong woman in faith, her sweet spirit was one of her most noticeable traits, and was just magnified by the dementia which she lived with the last several years of her life. Rest well sweet Evaline, Mom, Grammie, your beautiful smile will be missed by so many.
