Delbert  Alward

  R.W.B. Delbert Arthur Alward, 88, a lifelong resident of Havelock passed away peacefully at his home Saturday August 16, 2014 . Born in Salem, he was the eldest son of the late A. Perry and Eva (Ryder) Alward. Delbert in his early years worked with his father in their garage, A.P. Alward and Son, in Havelock. He was also a schoolbus driver  for 25 years for the Province of NB and also operated an automobile service garage at his residence.

He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge of New Brunswick and an Honorary member of Fownes Lodge, Harmony Lodge, Zion Lodge and Stephen Lodge. Delbert was also member of the Havelock Lions Club, Sportsman Club, Havelock Baptist Church, Havelock Volunteer Fire Department where he served many years as Chief, the Stanley NS Aviation Club ,and was a founding member of the Havelock Flying Club where he built and flew his own airplane. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, musician and enjoyed many camping adventures.

   He was the devoted husband of 65 years to his wife, the late Jean (Keith) Alward. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his daughter Delberta Flood (John)  and their daughters Elizabeth and Ellen all of Fredericton; his son Nelson (Monica) of Saint John and their children Ryan of Fredericton and Sarah of Saint John; a brother Lee (Lois Waldrop) of Moncton;  sisters Joyce Norris of Moncton and Vesta Goddard of Petitcodiac; sister-in-law Ruth Alward of Petitcodiac; brother-in-law William Cruickshank of Springhill N.S. and by several nieces and nephews.

  Besides his wife, Delbert was predeceased by his sister, Della Cruickshank, brother Royce Alward and brother-in-law, Robert Goddard.

  A Celebration of Delbert's Life will be held Tuesday August 19 at 3 p.m. from the Salisbury Funeral Home Chapel, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) with Rev. Bill Parks  officiating. A Masonic Service will begin the celebration. Interment at the Greenhill Cemetery, Havelock.

  If desired memorials to the Greenhill Cemetery Fund, Havelock Lions Club, Havelock Baptist Church or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
