1931-2020

Bessie O'Brian

Bessie Alberta O’Brian, 88, of Colpitts Settlement, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the Moncton Hospital with family by her side. Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late William and Ethel (Thorne) Corey and beloved wife of the late Norman "Mike" O’Brian.

Bessie was a member of the Five Points Baptist Church and Auxiliary Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 31 Salisbury. She worked at T. Eaton Company and provided Senior Home Care. She loved sweets of any kind, especially chocolate, and if she had her way, would begin her meals with dessert. Bessie was always up for a game of Scrabble or Phase-10 with anyone who was willing to play, especially those who could spell, or those who understood "Mom’s house, Mom’s rules" and would let her get away with cheating. She was referred to as "Wild Card Bess". Bessie loved time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survived and sadly missed by her children, Patricia O’Brian of Ontario, Norma O’Brian of Colpitts Settlement, Brenda Taylor of Victoria, BC, Nancy O’Brian (Glen) of Little River, and Billy O’Brian (Annette) of Colpitts Settlement; grandchildren, Nicholas (Melissa), Kelsey, Maggie (Heather) and Kaitie; great-grandchildren, Conner, Leland, Levi, Colt, Liam and Denali; brother, Rev. Wallace Corey (Lynne) of Saint John and sister, Maxine Corey of Moncton; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, Bessie was predeceased by her step-mother, Hazel; sister, Marie Corey and her foster grandson, Daniel Carson.

Special thank-you to homecare givers, Lesley, Vivian, Joni and Debbie; Dr. Kenney, Dr. Lisa Searle, Dr. Mansfield, Dr. Ghassemi, and especially Dr. Serge Landry for his care and sharing special stories in the emergency room, and to the wonderful staff of 4600.
