Bertha Zimmerman

1939-2020

Bertha Zimmerman

Bertha Zimmerman (nee Malone), 80, of Salisbury, NB and formerly of Brandon, Manitoba died peacefully on January 23rd , 2020 at the Jordan Lifecare Centre, The Glades, NB from complications related to Dementia.  She will be remembered for her sincere and ardent interest in other people, and appreciation for everyone who touched her life.

She was born on October 5th, 1939 to Leo Malone and Marjorie (nee McConnell) in Stanley, NB.

She was the eldest of 4, survived by her brother Roy Malone (Solange) of Riverview, her youngest sister Shirley Malone of Salisbury, her cousin David Cavanaugh of Fredericton, her Aunt Elaine and her brother-in-law Philip Arsenault of Salisbury, as well as many nieces and nephews.  She is predeceased by her husband Richard (2000), her parents, her sister Cathy (2017), as well as many beloved uncles and aunts.

After graduating from business college in Fredericton, NB, Bertha pursued her lifelong desire to serve her God Jehovah by sharing in the fulltime voluntary ministry and made it her mission in life to comfort others with the good news of the Kingdom.  She married Richard Zimmerman on June 10th, 1961 and continued together in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and for most of their life in Manitoba encouraging others by their efforts in the fulltime ministry of Jehovah’s Witnesses while supporting themselves financially in a variety of part time work.  This was their mutual desire and they found great happiness and many friends during their journey across Canada.

She loved her family and her many friends across the country.  Showing her real interest in people, Bertha always tried to get to know the "details" of everyone she personally met.  Many of us remember her journals where she jotted down notes on everyone.  She found great pleasure in gardening.  In fact, she would often volunteer to help others with theirs.  She especially enjoyed maintaining the flowers at the Salisbury Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses when her health permitted.

The family wants to thank all of her caregivers that helped while she was at her home and later to the staff of the Jordan Lifecare Centre for the wonderful and attentive care given over the past 15 months.  You truly made her feel like it was her home.

We will always remember the many local friends who called and visited her faithfully.  We appreciate your love and loyalty to Bertha.

Her Memorial Service will be Sunday, February 2nd, 2020 at 2 pm at the Salisbury Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2708 Fredericton Rd, Salisbury, NB.
