Edward "Ed" Farrell

1947-2019

Edward "Ed" Farrell

It is with sad hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Ed Farrell of Petitcodiac, NB at his home on Sunday, September 15, 2019. He was 72 and was the son of the late Jack and Catherine (Egan) Farrell.

Ed enjoyed life to its fullest in his career as a RCMP member. He graduated Depot in 1968 and served in Toronto, Fredericton, McAdam, Doaktown, Petitcodiac, and the Northwest Territories, including Yellowknife and Toktoyaktuk. While up north he enjoyed the outdoor life of snowmobiling and fishing. Ed retired as a Staff Sergeant in Grand Falls Windsor, Newfoundland. After retirement, Ed moved to Petitcodiac where he took up his passion, golf, which he enjoyed to the fullest with his buddies, Harry and Gordie. Ed's other passion was cards and on Tuesdays and Thursdays he would be found in his shed with the boys taking dimes and quarters. Also, during the past few years he took up cycling and he and Val cycled the Confederation Trail and Mount Tremblant. Ed was such an avid gardener that his two apple trees became so productive that his sisters, Eileen and Cathy had to be brought from "off shore" to pick the harvest. Ed put his "Up North" trapping experience to good use and became an experienced live trapper of raccoons and squirrels. As good as he was, there was one mighty beast that required Ed to call the professionals… a small brown mouse! Ed loved to travel, he especially enjoyed his April golf trips to Myrtle Beach to play with his Petty buddies. On his seventieth birthday he made his dream trip to Ireland with Val, John, Erzsi, and Cathy. One of the highlights for Ed was kissing the Blarney Stone.

Ed is survived and sadly missed by his loving wife of 15 years, Valerie Farrell (Dunfield); sisters, Eileen Carson (Reg) and Cathy Andrews all of St. John's NL; brother John Farrell (Erzsi) of Edmonton, AB; mother-in-law, Verna Dunfield; brothers-in-law, Rick Dunfield (Ellen), Len Dunfield (Dawn); sister-in-law, Shirley Armstrong (Gerald); several nieces and nephews who were very special to Ed, and who Ed loved as if they were his own.

Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Edwards and Mary Kirkland; father-in-law, George Dunfield; first wife, Cynthia Dunphy who passed in 1986.
