Erma Pearl Corey, 94, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, July 1, 2018.
Erma was born January 1, 1924, to the late Macel and Guilford Alward and at the age of 16 she married Russell Percy Corey, the man with whom she would share her life until his passing in 2000. In 1941, they made their home in Canaan, NB where they raised their family. Erma spent her days gardening, doing crafts, knitting, crocheting and sewing. Her love of animals was almost as great as her love of babies and she was even known to knit and crochet baby sets for local charities. Her family and friends always knew she had a great appreciation for music but it wasn't until she appeared on Global News in December 2015 playing her mouth organ that its impact on her life was realized. It was in 2013 that Erma moved from her home in Canaan to find a new extended family at Hillside View Special Care Home; it was here that she made many new friends while entertaining them with her musical stylings. The staff here held a special place in Erma's heart and the love they showed her will be forever appreciated by her family.
Erma is survived by her daughter Carol Van Kesteren (late Leon) of Summerland, BC and her son Garry (Darlene) of Havelock, son-in-law Peter Ryder of Havelock as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years Russell, her sons Ronald and Lionel and her infant daughter Theresa and daughter Trina Ryder as well as her sister Verna Carroll (Phil).
Resting at Armstrong's Funeral Chapel, 33 Russell Street (756-3361) with visitation Wednesday, July 4 from 6 to 8 pm. The funeral will be held at the Salisbury Funeral Home Chapel, 3350 Route 106 on Thursday, July 5 at 11 am with Rev. Fred Carr officiating. Interment will take place at Greenhill Cemetery, Havelock.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Erma's memory to Hillside View Special Care Home, 560 Front Mountain Road, Moncton, NB E1G-3H3.
