  Captain Lawrence Duncan Hawkes of Shediac, formerly of Wheaton Settlement died peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2018.

  Born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1929, son of the late Wellington and Lucy (Duncan) Hawkes.

  His passing will leave an irreplaceable void in the heart of his wife Donna Leigh (Wilband) Hawkes. He will also be missed by his daughter Elaine Cellucci and son Stephen Hawkes both of California; stepdaughters Heidi Quinlan (PEI) and Heather Hapgood (Dan) (Wheaton Settlement) and grandsons Jon and Luke Quinlan.  He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Steeves (Riverview); longtime friend Aiko (Salisbury); a special cousin Frances O'Brien (Burlington, Mass) and several other relatives.  He was   predeceased by his children’s mother Barry and more recently his son-in-law Ed Cellucci.

  When Larry retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, he moved back to his parents’ home country - CANADA.  After his military career he was a University honours graduate.  In recent years he has been a member of Howard Lodge No. 15, Air Force Veterans Club of Moncton and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #33 Shediac. Larry was an avid hunter, gardener and craftsman.

  Resting at Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Route 106 (372-4800) visiting will be Saturday, May 5 from 1 pm until time of service at 2 pm in the chapel with Rev. Kendell McRae officiating.  Interment at First North River Cemetery at a later date.

  If desired, memorials to a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.

  Donna and her family wish to express sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Melanie Cyr and Dr. Tania Harquail and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Moncton Hospital.
