Dale Geldart

1939-2016

Dale Geldart

Dale Everette Geldart, 77, of Upper Coverdale passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Moncton Hospital.

Born in Nixon, he was the son of the late Everette and Nora (Wilson) Geldart.

Dad lived 1 day past his 77th birthday.  It may come as a shock to hear of his passing, as he wasn’t known to be an ill man.  However throughout the past year, his health had declined and an official diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) was made only hours before his passing this week.

Dad has had many different chapters in his life.  He was married to Helen Pellerin (Sue’s mother) for 2 years until her early death in 1969. He worked most of his life as a signal repairman for CNR, which took him to Newfoundland where he met our mom, Margie in Clarenville and brought her home to NB where they had myself (Shelli) and Jason.

Besides work, Dad’s interests have included working at the firewood, raising his own foxes, snowmobiling, woodworking, hunting and fishing.  He loved Newfoundland and our family there so much that we never took a family vacation elsewhere growing up.  It is a very special place for all of us and we love our family and friends on "The Rock". Dad was always up for a game of crib - beating me most recently in the hospital for our last 2 games.  He and Mom spent much of their social life with a group of close friends playing cards at each other’s house. They were as close as family to us.

Since Mom’s passing in 2005, this last chapter of his life has brought new friends into his life.  They range from fishing buddies, to his wood buddies, to simply friends in his life that he considered as close as family.  Know that your friendship meant so very much to him, and to us.

Besides his parents and Mom, he was predeceased by 4 siblings: Winston, Wayne, Sharon and Joan.  He is survived by 3 siblings: Wade (Elaine) of Keswick Ridge, Ronald of Turtle Creek, and Nancy Flinn (Tony) of Woodstock.  Also his children Sue Scribner (Kevin) of Sussex, myself Shelli (Denis Collette) and Jason (Jenn Bourque) both of Salisbury and all of our families, which include 10 grandkids and 3 great-grandkids will miss him dearly.

Family will receive relatives and friends at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) on Thursday, December 22 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm.  There will be a private family service at a later date.

If desired, donations to a local food bank, in his memory would be appreciated by the family.
